- The C-47 “Thats All Brother” was the first aircraft to lead the formation of 800 Allied transport aircraft on D-Day, the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944.
- The aircraft got its name “Thats All Brother” from a note above the flight deck written by a mechanic who was repairing the aircraft. It was his personal message to Hitler, along the lines of “That’s enough!”.
- The C-47 was one of the most widely used aircraft of World War II and was used for a variety of tasks, such as transporting troops, cargo and medical supplies.
- The C-47 was also involved in supplying the Allies during the siege of Bastogne during the Battle of the Ardennes.
- A total of about 10,000 C-47s were built during World War II.
- The C-47 ‘Thats All Brother’ was decommissioned in 1945 and subsequently operated as a civilian aircraft.
