Corsair F4U

The Corsair F4U is one of the most iconic aircraft in the world. To implement the power of its beefy double radial engine, it has a huge propeller. So that the prop didn’t touch the ground, the wings were simply given the well-known wing kink in order to set the propeller axis higher. The Corsair was the most successful aircraft used by the US Navy on aircraft carriers during World War II. The main purpose of the Corsair can also be seen on the windmill plane from the hook shown, with which the machines could also land on aircraft carriers.

• The aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) was so badly hit by two Kamikaze fighters in April 1945 after very successful operations that it was withdrawn to the USA for maintenance.
• The Corsair gained TV notoriety because it was used in the television series ‘Pacific Squadron 214’.
