Legendary Race Cars as Wind Chimes

Car races with classic speedsters in your own garden? But how would that work with the available space, noise-sensitive neighbors, and also the investment costs? What about environmental regulations and fuel prices? The answer is surprisingly simple: with MaxFlite's favorite racing car as a wind spinner!

Handmade wind spinner cars from maxFlite

The starting point for the small but excellent wind spinner manufacturer maxFlite.de in Bremen was to expand the product range, which previously consisted of classic airplanes as wind spinners for garden decoration, to include wind spinner cars.

Admittedly, a few wind spinner cars set up don't quite offer the thrill of watching a car race with the corresponding soundscape. Nevertheless, an appropriate arrangement of maxFlite wind spinner racing cars can convey emotions and the flair of true racing legends.

Discover airplanes – but also cars as wind spinners

Airplanes have a propeller, which is, of course, excellently suited as a decorative wind spinner. But the word "Windrad" (wind spinner) itself actually contains more of a car than an airplane, namely the "RAD" (wheel). How such a car wheel could be driven by the wind was quickly solved at maxFlite. Of course, maxFlite gave each wheel its own ball bearing. This ensures that even with the slightest breeze, such a racing car appears to drive off. The vehicle body serves as a weathervane around which the wind spinner car changes its direction of travel depending on the wind, thanks to another horizontal ball bearing. With sufficient wind, this results in a beautiful wind spinner racing car that, like the original, takes several fast turns in quick succession, and the rims sparkle with speed.

The selection of specific vehicle types that maxFlite then manufactures as wind spinners is, of course, difficult given the large number of true racing legends. There are also countless heroes behind the wheel among drivers. Well, a start has to be made somewhere. Over time, the range of wind spinner cars can also be expanded.

Therefore, it was initially decided to offer 3 cars as wind chimes:

  1. Mercedes-Benz W25 of 1936, the first 'Silver Arrow' with the unforgettable Rudolf Caracciola at the wheel.
  2. The bright red Ferrari 156 nicknamed "Sharknose" due to its distinctive air intakes. Phil Hill became world champion with it in the 1961 Formula 1 season; the unforgettable Graf Berghe von Trips died in it and became posthumous vice world champion.
  3. Everyone knows it, the green-yellow Lotus 25, a milestone in racing history. MaxFlite's version from 1963, when works driver Jim Clark overwhelmingly won the world championship title.

Fans of classic racing vehicles will naturally be thrilled by this selection.
MaxFlite's implementation as elegant wind spinner bodies also leaves nothing to be desired. The main material for these tasteful garden decorations is, of course, rust-free stainless steel. Combined with high-quality, UV-resistant foiling that lasts for years, on which all the details of the original vehicles are printed, this results in a robust combination of high durability coupled with a love for detail that even an expert can enjoy for a long time upon closer inspection.

Scale for your garden

The scaled wheel diameter could not be fully realized to ensure the wind has enough surface area for good airflow at the start signal. Especially for the Lotus and Ferrari, great care was taken to faithfully reproduce the distinctive exhaust tailpipes. These can be mounted on the wind chimes as reflective stainless steel sheet parts. Overall, this results in a high-quality and functional accessory for tastefully decorating your garden. Since static photos cannot fully convey the enthusiasm that the wind spinner cars radiate, maxFlite will, of course, create a corresponding video for each car. The video of the Mercedes Silver Arrow is already available and shows the wind spinner car in full action in the garden. Lotus and Ferrari will be available as garden wind spinners from July 2020. Of course, it is foreseeable that the racing cars will only truly spread a racing atmosphere when set up as a group of wind spinner vehicles. After all, a Formula 1 race with only one car would be a bit bland. Finally, maxFlite hopes that the valuable wind spinner cars will also find a large fan base who enjoy hosting a very special car race on their terraces, balconies, or in their gardens. Purely wind-driven and ecologically sound, yet with the familiar appearance of the legendary, powerful, and beautifully designed racing cars, with the heroes of past decades at the wheel.
